A quasi-static variational phase-field model for nanowires growth

abstract: The vapor–liquid–solid method is a catalytic mechanism for the growth of semiconductor nanowires, i.e. thin elongated crystalline structures with the diameter of the order of a nanometer. I will discuss and illustrate a geometric approach which leads to modeling the problem as a quasi-static evolution of several interfaces whose shapes are governed by a multiphase field variational energy under both growth and mobility constraints.
