Multiscale modeling and simulations to bridge molecular and cellular scales

Mechanical forces in neural development: from neurite interactions to network structure

speaker: Martin Zapotocky (Institut of Physiology of the Czech Academy of Sciences)

abstract: During the development of the nervous system, connections are formed by thin growing neurites axons and dendrites. Adhesive interactions among the neurites can lead to bundling and formation of fasciculated networks. I will present recent work in which we analyzed the biophysical mechanisms of axon bundling, and then discuss modeling frameworks that permit to connect the properties of individual neurites with the dynamics on the network scale.
