Although she is better known as a novelist, Virginia Woolf wrote numerous short stories ranging from animal fables and philosophical tales to sketches and prose poems. The number and variety of texts seem to preclude any overall reading that would lead to the definition of the Woolfian short story as a specific literary genre.
