Evolution Equations for Deterministic and Stochastic Systems

Carleman estimates for parabolic operators with application to unique continuation and controllability

speaker: Piermarco Cannarsa (Università di Roma Tor Vergata)

abstract: Carleman estimates are a priori estimates in weighted Sobolev norms that were first introduced to study unique continuation for solutions to linear partial differential equations. More recently, global versions of such estimates have been developed to investigate controllability properties for various kinds of equations and systems. These lectures will survey the essential results concerning Carleman estimates for second order parabolic operators and their applications to control theory.
