Stochastic Fluid Mechanics and SPDEs

seminar: Violation of time reversal invariance and long range space correlations

speaker: Giovanni Jona-Lasinio (Università di Roma "La Sapienza")

abstract: It is an experimental fact that fluids in a nonequilibrium steady state generically have long range space correlations. Some non reversible linear SPDE's provide phenomenological models of this effect. We analyse this phenomenon at a more basic level with the help of lattice gases admitting a hydrodynamic scaling limit. We introduce the notions of strong and weak violation of time reversal invariance (TRI) according to whether the violation of TRI in the microscopic dynamics shows up or not at the hydrodynamical level. We then argue that long range space correlations seem to be a generic feature of dynamics strongly violating TRI.
