seminar: Geometry and free boundary problems of the Euler equation
speaker: Jalal Shatah (Courant Institute)abstract: In this talk we will show how the geometry of the free boundary problem of the Euler equation leads to a priori estimates and the existence of solutions in a straightforward manner. We will also give a geometric interpretation of hydrodynamical instabilities such as the Rayleigh-Taylor and Kelvin-Helmholtz instabilities.
