Field automorphism groups and their representations

abstract: The automorphism group G of an algebraically closed field extension of an algebraically closed field is a huge totally disconnected topological group. It turns out that the representation theory of G is closely related to algebraic geometry (more precisely, to birational invariants of algebraic varieties, algebraic cycles and motives). I plan to explain, what is known about representations of G and their relations to geometry.
