abstract: I will describe a recent joint work with A. Figalli, dealing with the Brenier-Shnirelman relaxation of the Arnold distance in the space of measure-preserving maps. We describe necessary and sufficient optimality conditions for this problem that involve the pressure field, and links with the theory of optimal mass transportation.
