Zeta functions and L-series in positive characteristic

Some simple observations on the Riemann Hypothesis arising out of characteristic p L-series.

abstract: Sometimes the simplest observations have important consequences. We shall explain how the Carlitz module leads to a re-examination of the Riemann Hypothesis in terms of ramification theory and further explain how this is supported by the work of Wan, Sheats, Thakur, Poonen, etc., in finite characteristic.
