Average decay of the Fourier transform and irregularities of distribution

abstract: The term "Irregularities of distribution" concerns the irregularity necessarily present in any way of distributing N points in the unit d-dimensional cube. Several results in this theory depend on estimates for the decay of certain Fourier transforms. We will describe some of these applications and related geometrical problems.
