course: Is there a science of complexity?
speaker: John Milnor (Stony Brook University)abstract: The study of complex interactions and complex behaviors will surely play a very important role in the science of the next century. Cooperation between scientists in a number of different fields will be essential in many such studies. The lecture will argue that general unifying principles can sometimes help to focus ideas, but cannot be any substitute for painstaking study of individual problems.
