"Beyond Lie algebras — a survey of generalised notions of symmetry "
speaker: Ulrich Kraehmer (University of Glasgow)abstract: This will be an overview of some algebraic structures that were introduced as generalisations of groups and Lie algebras, such as Hopf algebras and quantum groups that are obtained by deformation, or Lie-Rinehart algebras, Lie algebroids and groupoids that arise via globalisation. As an overarching concept that absorbs all of the above I will then discuss in some detail different definitions of Hopf algebroids. If time permits, I will at the end also talk about yet another generalisation, namely Leibniz algebras and racks and discuss how they relate to the others.
