Unlinked" Floer homology, and finite energy foliations

speaker: Barney Bramham (Ruhr-Universität Bochum)

abstract: This talk will present an approach to constructing finite energy foliations in the context of a mapping torus of a surface. Our method rests on new Floer-like Hamiltonian chain complexes supported on maximally unlinked braids of periodic orbits. The latter concept is taken from LeCalvez' work on surface homeomorphisms. This allows us to more or less characterize finite energy foliations for mapping tori, and possibly these chain complexes will be of independent interest.
