course: Scaling limits for Interacting Particle Systems

speaker: Fraydoun Rezakhanlou (University of California, Berkeley)

abstract: I start with some classical open problems regarding the macroscopic behavior for particle systems governed by Hamiltonian systems. Depending on the way the number of particles is scaled with the range of intercation, we expect to have kinetic, hydrodynamic or diffusive behavior. I then describe some stochastic variations of the Hamiltonian systems for which some of the expected macroscopic behavior can be rigorously established.
