Real Spectrum and Character Varieties

speaker: Marc Burger (ETH Zürich)

abstract: Weyl chamber valued length functions were used by A. Parreau to compactify the G-character variety of a finitely generated group L, where G is a real reductive group. Exploiting the fact that said character variety has a semi algebraic model, one can compactify it by the real spectrum, which contains much more information. The relationship between the real spectrum and the Weyl chamber valued length compactification leads to new interesting properties of said length functions. Joint work with A. Iozzi, A. Parreau, B. Pozzetti.
