On sphere packings and arithmetic groups
speaker: Misha Kapovich (University of California)abstract: The classical Apollonian packing in the plane, usually described by an ad hoc construction involving inscribing tangent circles, exhibits a number of thereafter surprising arithmetic and dynamical properties. In this talk I will describe properties of more general collections of round spheres in Euclidean spaces and their relation to arithmetic groups.This is a joint work with Alex Kontorovich.
