Differential Geometry and Topology

course: Perelman's work on Ricci flow and geometrization

speaker: Michael T. Anderson (Stony Brook University)

abstract: These four lectures will survey Perelman's work on Thurston's geometrization conjecture.

A very rough division of the topics is as follows:

LECTURE I: Thurston's geometrization conjecture

LECTURE II: Survey of Hamiltons's results on Ricci flow

LECTURES III and IV: Perelman's work: Entropy functional, proof of non-collapse and no-cigar theorems, structure of blow-up limits, canonical neighborhood theorem, Ricci flow with surgery, long-time behavior of Ricci flow with surgery.

Some of II may come in I, and similarly III in II.
