seminar: Ecological Equilibrium for an Unbounded Contact Process

speaker: Gustavo Posta (Politecnico di Milano)

abstract: We consider a generalization of the contact process in which there is no "a priori" limit for the number of particles per site. Standard contact process and branching random walks are particular cases of this type of processes. We will see, under some hypothesis, that the process has a proper nontrivial invariant measure. This stationary state can be interpreted as an ecological equilibrium: the system has the ability to regulate its reproduction to colonize the space without dying and without exploding.
