Boundary control and optimization

26 February 2004 - 28 February 2004

Aims

Computational Techniques for Identification and Optimal Control of Systems Modelled by Partial Differential Equations; Computational Techniques for Structural Problems, Elasticity, Plasticity, etc., including various approaches such as: Finite Element Approximation Techniques, Decomposition Techniques, Interactive and Graphic Computer Techniques.

Research Directions

The workshop, organized by the Center and the International Federetion of Processing Systems, Working group 7.2, aims to fostering the international exchange of ideas and experience in the area of Computational Techniques with Mathematical Foundation and particular emphasis on Control of distributed systems arising in different disciplines such as Mechanics, Economics, Biomedical, Engineering, Geophysics, etc.

The workshop will focus on the boundary control techniques, based on the dynamical sytem viewpoint, including stochastic control, and abstract setting, but also on numerical methods such as finite element approximations, or mechanical modeling approches in which varying boundary control parameters to optimize some cost functional are treated as a moving a boundary by considering eulerian coordinate.

The International Federation of Processing System (ww.ifip.or.at) is a large scientific international federation under the auspice of UNESCO. The Working group 7.2 is devoted to Computational Techniques in Distributed System (www.math.virginia.edu~ifipwg72 ) and was founded by A. Balakrishnan (UCLA) and J.L. Lions (Paris) in 1973.
