Minimal surfaces in the Heisenberg group

abstract: We study the minimal surface equation for graphs in the Heisenberg group, where the mean curvature is defined naturally when considering second variations of the volume form. We obtain a highly degenerate equation which has both elliptic and hyperbolic features. We discuss existence and regularity for the solutions.
