Analogies between truth and utility

abstract: Modern investigations into truth and utility largely diverge. We claim that by analysing logical and conceptual foundations of these notions it is possible to isolate common structures and thus appreciate the extent to which truth and utility can be lucratively related. The main contribution of this work is to show that key concepts and methods of utility theory can be brought to bear on the analysis of truth, in particular of degrees of truth.
