The connections between the geometry of nilpotent orbits and representation theory is one of the fundamental themes in Lie theory since the works of Kirillov, Dynkin and Kostant in the fifties. The end of the seventies with the work of Springer, Kazhdan-Lusztig and Lusztig, marked a turning point in this study, which highlights new links between the geometry of the nilpotent cone, its resolutions and representation theory. The objects and the ideas introduced in these works have influenced all of the following developments in representation theory.
Starting from a more algebraic approach to the study of Kazhdan-Lusztig polynomials, and also from Lusztig conjectures on representation of algebraic reductive groups in positive characteristic and from new subjects of research like W-algebras, in the last years some very remarkable and beautiful results have been obtained which could represent a third turning point in the research in this subject.
The aim of the conference is to gather together the main actors of the major progresses obtained in this area in the last years.
In particular will partecipate in the conference experts on the singularities of the closures of nilpotent orbits, Springer correspondence and modular Springer correspondence, representation of algebraic reductive groups in positive characteristic, simple Lie algebra in positive characteristic, W-algebras, primitive ideals, abelian ideals.
There is no conference fee, but registration is required. Because of a limited number of seats in the conference hall, admittance will be guaranteed according to the date of registration. We therefore encourage prospective participants to register early. Registered participants will receive confirmation of admittance. Closing date for registration is 25th May 2016.
Some funds are available to offer financial support to a limited number of people (see Financial Support for more information). Deadline for application for support: 5th April 2016
TALK SCHEDULE, OPEN DISCUSSIONS AND SOCIAL ACTIVITIES
Since June 17 will be holiday in Pisa, the main talks will start on the morning of June 13 and will end on the afternoon of June 16. June 17 will be devoted to open discussions that will take place at the Centro De Giorgi. There will be some offices and some rooms with blackboards and tables reserved for participants to that purpose.
On the night of June 16 the participants will have the chance to view the Luminara of San Ranieri, a spectacular event which takes place every year in Pisa. On June 17 we plan to organize also some recreational activity.
This workshop is organized with the partecipation and support of the following institutions:
INdAM-GNSAGA
Università di Pisa
Dipartimento di Matematica Università La Sapienza Roma
FIRB Project “Perspectives in Lie Theory”
Scuola Normale Superiore
"Coordinate Rings of Spherical Varieties"
